We’re looking for backpacking, camping, and hiking trip guides to take groups of people on trips! These will be on an as-needed basis.
These trips will vary in length from overnight, 2-3 night, and longer trips. Our trips will focus on Michigan backpacking and hiking destinations, with some potential excursions to other Midwest states. In 2024, we will plan on two or three trips out west.
In performing this role, you will be joined by at least one other guide, with no more than a 5-1 guest to guide ratio. You’ll also be serving as guide, cook, first aid provider, host, and everything else that goes into leading a group of people outdoors.
Ideally looking for a mix of male/female guides so that all of our guests feel comfortable and safe. This role is perfect for someone who loves to explore the outdoors but wants to educate others and help them enjoy the outdoors. Most of our client base will be relatively new to backpacking and perhaps camping, it will be your responsibility to make sure they enjoy the experience in a safe and fun manner.
Requirements:
- Wilderness First Responder certified (preferred), Wilderness First Aid Certified and BLS certified accepted otherwise.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must have knowledge of amateur and/or 2 wave radio usage and requirements, or be willing to learn.
- Must be able to use a compass and read maps.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic wilderness camping and survival skills.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and lead in case of emergencies.
